Roy B. from The Hague will be prosecuted for involvement in the death of 17-year-old Orlando Boldewijn from Rotterdam, the Public Prosecutor announced. According to the Prosecutor, the 27-year-old man saw the teenager lying in the water, but did nothing to help him, NU.nl reports.
The parents of two Dutch soldiers killed in a mortar grenade accident in Mali in 2016, are pressing charges of death through negligence against the Defense organization and an unknown number of Defense employees. The parents want those responsible for the deaths of their sons - 29-year-old Henry Hoving and 24-year-old Kevin Roggeveld - to be found and tried, the Volkskrant reports.
Mitch Henriquez did not die as a result of a chokehold used on him when he was arrested in Zuiderpark in The Hague in June 2015, the Public Prosecutor said in court on Monday. The two police officers charged with the Aruban man's death should therefore be acquitted of manslaughter and death through negligence. Henriquez' arrest was justified, but too much violence was used. The two police officers are therefore guilty of abuse, the Prosecutor said.
The appeals court in Beijing sentenced Dutch man Harm Fitié to 4.5 years in prison for his involvement in the death of his neighbor. A lower Chinese court previously sentenced him to 12 years, ANP reports.
Fitié was accused of pushing his neighbor off a rooftop, killing him. The Dutch man, living in Beijing, always maintained that neighbor Lu Zhichen was drunk and fell. There were no witnesses. His lawyer called this sentence a "fairer punishment, given the fact that it was never proven that Fitié intentionally injured his neighbor.
On Thursday the court in Utrecht sentenced a lifeguard and two swim teachers to 60 hours of community service. They were found guilty of death through negligence in the drowning of a 9-year-old Syrian girl shortly after a swimming lesson at 't Gastland pool in Rhenen in September 2015. Two primary school teachers were acquitted, NU.nl reports.

On Friday the Public Prosecutor demanded three years in prison, one of which conditionally suspended, against 18-year-old Elias A. for killing a toddler in a hit-and-run accident in Breda on King's Day. The Prosecutor also wants the teen's driver's license suspended for eight years and that he be treated in a clinic, NU.nl reports.
The stunt driver involved in a monster truck crash that left three people dead and injured many others was sentenced to 15 months in jail at a court hearing on Friday. The court ruled that Mario D., an experienced stunt driver, was responsible in the accident, which saw the truck careen out of control and crash into a gathered crowd in Haaksbergen, Overijssel.
ProRail finished towing away the train that derailed after crashing into a crane near Dalfsen. The cleanup finished late on Wednesday afternoon and the railway company immediately started repairing the track and overhead line. ProRail had no idea that a crane would be working near the track on Tuesday.
