Emergency services discovered a body in an apartment building in Diemen on Wednesday morning. The building on Rode Kruislaan was evacuated because of a fire earlier on Wednesday. A person with serious injuries was also found in the building, in addition to three others reported injured earlier this morning, ANP reports.

The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. in a ground floor apartment. Firefighters had it under control by 4:30 a.m. and kept it from spreading to the rest of the building.

The student housing shortage in Amsterdam is getting worse and worse, and if nothing is done about it, students will start opting for universities in other Dutch cities, a group of Amsterdam universities, colleges and housing corporations said in an urgent call to the municipality. According to them, Amsterdam needs at least 2 thousand new student homes per year, Het Parool reports.

A student who rented out his Amsterdam room for three weeks through Airbnb will be allowed to keep living there, the court in Amsterdam ruled. Housing association De Key demanded that the student move out, Het Parool reports.

By renting out the room, the student broke the lease agreement with De Key. The student rented a student room to tourists between September 26th and October 17th last year, without getting permission from the housing association.

Housing corporation De Key in Amsterdam has asked its 997 group housing residents whether they would be willing to have refugee with a residency permit live with them. According to the corporation, they have already received some positive feedback.

The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is buying up 20 student homes located next to the museum. The museum is expanding in order to cope with the enormous flow of visitors. "We have to do something, because more and more often we're dealing with a jam", Garance Reus-Deelder, director of the Anne Frank Foundation, said to Het Parool.

Squatters threw paint-filled glass projectiles at police officers and a police car from a squatted Amsterdam building on Wednesday morning. The paint-bombs could have seriously injured the officers, says the municipality.

The Netherlands Public Prosecution Authority (OM) is investigating the circumstances around the gas explosion in flat complex Breukenhorst in Diemen, which killed two people and injured 15. Investigators will measure culpability of the various parties involved in the incident, NU.nl reports.
