The majority of Amsterdam residents supports taking measures against climate change, the Amsterdam center for research, information and statistics OIS found in a survey among 1,400 locals. Around 70 percent called the switch to sustainable, clean energy a good thing and feel responsible to contribute to this transition. And only 5 percent said climate change is exaggerated, the city said in a press release.

GroenLinks wants the government to make the land along highways available for more windmills. According to the party, highways form logical lines for windmills to be placed and it will be "a big step towards more clean energy".

Recent calculations by theoretical physicists from Utrecht University's Sustainability department will allow energy producers to achieve a much higher yield when generating blue-energy. The findings of René van Roij, Mathijs Janssen and Andreas Härtel were published on 24 December 2014 in the scientific journal Physical Review Letters under the title 'Boosting Capacitive Blue-Energy and Desalination Devices with Waste Heat.'
