Over 11 thousand people get to celebrate their leap day birthdays in the Netherlands on Saturday. That includes six people who will turn 100 years old, said Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

The country is home to 466 children who were born on the last leap day, and another 475 who were born on February 29, 2012. People born in on leap day 2000 or later make up 2,368 of the country's leap babies.

After a busy week that included a working trip to Africa, Queen Máxima celebrated her 48th birthday on Friday. She has been queen of the Netherlands for just over six years, after King Willem-Alexander’s mother Beatrix abdicated on April 30, 2013.

The King and Queen were scheduled to attend an event on Friday commemorating 100 years of equal voting rights in the Netherlands. All women in the country gained the right to cast a ballot in 1919, two years after men, according to the Dutch government information service.

Princess Amalia, crown princess of the Netherlands and the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, is turning 15 years old on Friday. She will be celebrating her birthday with her family and a few friends, Queen Maxima said to RTL Nieuws.

"Definitely with each other. And a few friends", the Queen said to the broadcaster. "All family at the start, then we will see. She has exams soon!"

Princess Alexia, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima's middle daughter, is celebrating her 13th birthday today.

Alexia attends the Christian Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague, along with her older sister Amalia. Her hobbies include hockey, horse riding, singing and playing guitar, according to the Royal House. 

As Alexia is not the crown princess, it is not mandatory to hang flags on government buildings for her birthday, according to the Telegraaf. But anyone who wants to do so, is allowed.

Queen Maxima is celebrating her 47th birthday on Thursday. Unlike last year, the Dutch Queen has no official appointments today, and will be celebrating her birthday at home with her family, NU.nl reports.

Maxima and then-Prince Willem-Alexander met each other in the Spanish city of Seville in April 1999. They got married on February 2nd, 2002, and have three daughters together - Amalia, Alexia and Ariane.

Princess Ariane, the youngest of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima's three daughters, celebrates her 11th birthday today.

Ariane was born on April 10th, 2007 and was baptized in the Klooster church in he Hague on October 20th of that year. She attends the Openbare Bloemcampschool. According to government information service Rijksvoorlichtingsdienst, the young princess enjoys horseback riding, hockey, drawing, playing guitar, and jazz ballet.

Insiya Hemani, kidnapped from her grandmother's Amsterdam home by her father in September 2016, turns four years old today. To celebrate her mother Nadia Rashid made a birthday video with magazine Vrouw and posted an emotional message on Facebook. 

"Happy birthday to Angel Insiya, who is a big girl now!" Nadia wrote on the Facebook page dedicated to bringing her daughter back from India, where she is with her father Shehzad Hemani.

Princess Amalia, the oldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima and the future queen of the Netherlands, is celebrating her 14th birthday today.

For the princess, today will be a normal Thursday, according to RTL Nieuws. She attends the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague, where she is in her third year.

On Tuesday giant pandas Xing Ya and Wu Wen celebrated their 4th birthday in the Ouwehands zoo in Rhenen. To celebrate, the zoo gave each of them a giant birthday 'cake'.

Xing Ya's cake consisted of frozen water, beetroot juice, carrots and apples. The top layer was decorated with four candles made from bamboo and carrots. Wu Wen's cake was made from carrot juice and fruit. Both pandas seemed to enjoy their cakes, both in taste and as a new toy to play with.

Queen Maxima is celebrating her 46th birthday today. Unlike the King, Maxima does not get a public holiday for her birthday. But there are no official duties listed on the Royal House agenda for her today, which means she can celebrate her birthday at home with her family, AD reports.

Thursday is back to work. The royal couple is handing out prizes for the Oranje Fund tomorrow for initiatives that connect different groups of people and inspire others.
