The VUmc in Amsterdam halted patient intake in its intensive care and medium care departments for 48 hours, due to an outbreak of antibiotic resistant bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii. Patients currently hospitalized in these departments can also not leave the hospital, RTL Nieuws reports.

The hospital has been struggling with this bacteria for over two weeks. "Despite strict isolation measures, intensive cleaning and extra hygiene measures in recent weeks, more infections were unfortunately found this week", the hospital said in a statement.

A "scarily high" 31 percent of sushi meals that are delivered to customers' homes contain too much bacteria, according to consumers association Consumentenbond. This is caused by poor hygiene in the preparation of the meals, the association concludes after testing 160 sushi samples from 20 restaurants in five cities, NU.nl reports.

Poor hygiene standards include using dirty cutting boards and employees not washing their hands before working with the food. In many cases the delivered sushi was fresh, the Consumentenbond added.

The Albert Schweitzer hospital in Dordrecht has had an outbreak of a drug resistant bacteria that has infected 15 people. The hospital has asked 900 patients to be tested for the bacteria.

The bacterium MRSA has surfaced on the Cardiology ward at Erasmus MC, RTV Rijnmond reports. Patients on that ward have been quarantined as a precaution. The hospital employees and visitors have to wear protective clothing and have to be properly disinfected at departure.
