5-year-old boy dies after falling into water in Lisse

A 5-year-old boy died on Thursday evening after falling into the water in Lisse, in the province of Zuid-Holland. The investigation concluded that the incident was a fatal accident, and police have formally excluded the possibility of a crime.

The incident occurred early in the evening along the Noorderkroon in Lisse, where the boy fell into the water. At approximately 7:15 p.m., emergency services were alerted after receiving a report that a child was undergoing resuscitation at the scene.

Emergency services were quickly scaled up, with several police units, ambulances, firefighters, and a trauma helicopter all responding urgently to the location.

The child was recovered from the water, treated at the scene, and then rushed to hospital with a police motorcycle escort. He died later that evening as a result of the incident.

In line with standard practice following the death of a minor, police have immediately opened an investigation into the precise circumstances of the incident.

For privacy reasons, authorities and media have not disclosed the boy’s identity or that of his family. Police have arranged support for witnesses and others directly affected through Victim Support Netherlands.
