Boy, 13, dies after being rescued from the sea at Scheveningen beach

A child who was rescued from the sea off the coast of Scheveningen on Monday afternoon has died, the police confirmed on Wednesday. The victim was a 13-year-old boy from The Hague.

The boy got into trouble in the seawater on Monday afternoon. The emergency services were alerted to his disappearance around 5:00 p.m. and responded en masse, searching for him with boats and a Coast Guard helicopter, Omroep West reports.

Rescue workers found the boy and brought him back to the beach. Paramedics spent a long time resuscitating him before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he died.

According to the regional broadcaster, the resuscitation drew so many onlookers that the emergency workers felt forced to put up screens.
