At least one hurt in Amsterdam shooting early on King's Day morning
At least one man was injured in a shooting in Amsterdam-West on Monday morning. Police were busy trying to find the suspect involved in the shooting, which happened just as the city was waking up to celebrate the King’s Day holiday.
The gunshots were reported near the intersection of Van Hallstraat and Schaepmanstraat shortly after an argument and fight were reported on the street. Close to 6:40 a.m., the sound of at least four gunshots rang out, an area resident told AT5.
Police were unable to find the victim when they arrived on scene, but emergency services personnel were dispatched a block west to De Kempenaerstraat about 15 minutes later.
The victim was found injured on the street there. He was treated by paramedics and a mobile medical trauma team. The individual was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, according to Hart van Nederland.
Police had not released a description of the gunman as of 9:30 a.m. Officers were canvassing the neighborhood searching for the suspect, and asking residents for information and camera footage recorded in the area.
The area around the shooting was cordoned off for some time to process the crime scene. Several detectives and forensic investigators were called in for the major investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact authorities.
