Two teenagers, 17, arrested for shooting fellow ROC student in Amsterdam

The police arrested two 17-year-old boys for shooting and injuring a 20-year-old man on Gare du Nord in Amsterdam on Tuesday afternoon. Both the suspects and the victim are students of the ROC school in the street, the police said on Wednesday.

Heavily armed police teams arrested the two suspects on Tuesday evening, the police said. The policy typically deploys such arrest teams to detain suspects who are armed and dangerous.

“It is possible that a conflict arose in the school prior to the incident,” the police said. “Once outside, one suspect allegedly fired a firearm. A 20-year-old student was injured. A second suspect was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting.”

The victim and suspects are all from Amsterdam. The suspects are in restricted custody, which means that they are only allowed contact with their lawyers.

The shooting happened outside the secondary school Bredero, which is part of the ROC, at around 2:45 p.m. Footage of the victim bleeding heavily on the ground while bystanders and school staff provided first aid was live-streamed on TikTok, prompting the police to again urge citizens not to post images of victims.

The police pointed out that the two teenagers took an enormous risk when shooting their classmate on a busy street in broad daylight. “At the time of the shooting, several people were walking near the victim on the street outside,” the police said. Any of them could have been hit.

“In addition, many people also witnessed the incident.” Victim support is available for any witnesses who need it, the police said.
