Stop sharing images of victims, police say after footage of Amsterdam shooting on TikTok
Footage of bystanders providing first aid to the 20-year-old victim of a shooting on Gare du Nord in Amsterdam on Tuesday afternoon was live-streamed on TikTok. The footage was likely recorded from a classroom in the nearby secondary school Bredero, Parool reports. The police again asked citizens to stop spreading images of victims.
According to Parool, the live stream showed the victim lying bleeding on the street while bystanders and school staff tried to help. The victim is clearly visible.
A police spokesperson told the newspaper that they are aware of the video. “If there is footage of the shooting, we would of course like to have it,” the police said. “But don’t take footage of a bleeding victim lying on the ground. That is really awful for the victim.”
The shooting happened at around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday in front of the secondary school on Gare du Nord, the street that runs along the Noord metro station. “Some students went inside in a panic because they saw the victim,” an individual at Bredero school told AT5.
Paramedics transported the 20-year-old man to a hospital for treatment. He was conscious and responsive, the police later said in a press release.
Two suspects were seen fleeing in the direction of the Krijtmolenpark after the shooting. They are still at large.
One of the suspects stood approximately 1.70-meters in height, with sunken cheeks, and black hair with a short part. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, black shoes, and may have been carrying a black bag.
The second suspect was about 10 centimeters taller and had a black moustache. He was wearing a black hooded jacket that may have been branded from The North Face. Witnesses said he was wearing tight black track pants, black gym shoes with white soles, and had a black shoulder bag.
