Fire in Veghel apartment complex leaves three units uninhabitable

A late-night fire in an apartment complex on Hoofdstraat in Veghel has left three apartments uninhabitable and caused significant damage to a shop below, Omroep Brabant reported.

The blaze broke out around 11:30 p.m. Friday on the first floor of the former Hout-Brox building. Authorities said the fire likely started in a utility meter cupboard.

Emergency services arrived quickly and brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported, though several residents were checked by ambulance personnel as a precaution.

During the fire, a water pipe melted, causing a leak that spread to a store beneath the apartments. The shop sustained significant water damage and was partially flooded.

The incident drew a large crowd of onlookers. Residents of the three affected apartments cannot return home for now. Other residents were allowed back into their homes after consulting with emergency responders.
