Zutphen apartment fire sends residents to balconies, no injuries reported
A fire broke out late Saturday night in an apartment building on Aert van Nesstraat in Zutphen, forcing residents to flee onto their balconies, according to Omroep Gelderland. Emergency crews evacuated several apartments, and at least one person had to be rescued using a ladder truck.
The blaze, which started shortly before midnight in a storage room, filled part of the apartment building with shared stairwell with heavy smoke. Some residents were already on their balconies when firefighters arrived. Most were able to leave safely via the stairwell.
“It took a while to locate the source of the fire, but once we did, the situation was quickly brought under control,” a fire department spokesperson said.
No injuries were reported. The fire produced significant smoke, and the building was ventilated before residents were allowed to return to their apartments. Authorities have not yet confirmed what exactly caught fire.
