Police fire shot during Vlissingen arrest; Suspect hospitalized, police dog injured
Dutch police fired a shot during an arrest in Vlissingen on Friday evening after responding to a man showing disturbed behavior, leaving the suspect hospitalized and a police dog injured, RTL reports.
Police were called to the Kasteelstraat after reports involving a man displaying what officials described as “unexplained behavior.” According to police, the confrontation intensified during the arrest attempt, and officers discharged a firearm.
Local reporting from 112Vlissingen said the man threatened himself with a knife and made stabbing motions toward officers before the situation escalated. That outlet also reported the suspect was struck by police gunfire, though police have not confirmed that.
A police spokesperson said, “During the arrest, we fired a shot. The suspect was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.” Authorities have not released details on the nature or severity of his injuries.
