Video: Man arrested for shooting at passerby from balcony of Heerlen apartment building
A man was firing gunshots from a balcony of a Heerlen apartment building late on Sunday afternoon. The police in the Limburg city arrested him after two hours of negotiation. No one was injured.
The man was shooting from the balcony of a fourth-floor apartment on De Heugden at around 5:20 p.m. He shot at a passerby, who called the police.
The police reported that multiple shots had been fired at the apartment building. Responding officers cordoned off a large part of the area surrounding the apartment complex as a precaution.
A police negotiator made contact with the man. The police’s Special Intervention Service (DSI) arrested him at 7:20 p.m., two hours after the first report of the shooting.
The police raided the man’s home and found a firearm, which they seized for investigation.
The motive for the shooting is still unclear. According to the police, a conflict in the apartment complex may have preceded the shooting.
