At least 100 Ajax supporters carrying torches block the team’s bus on A4
A group of at least 100 Ajax supporters briefly blocked the team’s bus on the A4 highway near Hoofddorp on Sunday, police said. The supporters carried torches and crossed the road to the median, temporarily disrupting other traffic. The action was intended as a show of support for the team.
“We understand supporting your club, but this is life-threatening. Fortunately, everything went well,” a police spokesperson said.
Ajax confirmed that the front of the bus was slightly damaged during the incident. No arrests were made, and the blockage caused a short traffic jam on the highway.
Shortly afterward, the Ajax team arrived at De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam for their away match against Feyenoord amid loud jeering from the crowd. Former Feyenoord player Steven Berghuis received the brunt of the abuse, with fans directing multiple verbal attacks at him.
Ajax is set to face Feyenoord in the Klassieker on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. No Ajax supporters are permitted at the stadium. Feyenoord sits second in the league, five points ahead of Ajax, while PSV can secure the championship later Sunday if Ajax beats Feyenoord and PSV wins at Telstar.
