Pedestrian dies after being hit on A50 near Sint-Oedenrode
A pedestrian died early Sunday after being struck on the A50 highway near Sint-Oedenrode, police in Oost-Brabant reported. The victim had been walking on the highway late Saturday night, prompting an earlier alert about someone on the road near a viaduct, Omroep Brabant reported.
Emergency services, including multiple units and a trauma helicopter, responded to the scene. The fire department of Woensel erected a screen to shield the victim from view, but the individual could not be saved.
The A50 was closed from Eindhoven toward Oss until 8:30 a.m. Sunday between junction Ekkersweijer and Sint-Oedenrode. Traffic heading to Nijmegen was rerouted via Den Bosch using the A2 and A59.
Police confirmed that the driver involved in the collision was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Authorities are conducting an investigation, using a drone to document the site. The reason the pedestrian was on the highway remains unknown. Police asked anyone with information to come forward.
