Six vehicles collide on N261 near Waalwijk; One person hospitalized, children involved
A multi-vehicle crash on the Midden-Brabantweg (N261) near Waalwijk on Friday evening involved six cars and sent one person to the hospital, while several others, including children, were checked for injuries, police said.
The collision occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on the N261 near Waalwijk in Noord-Brabant. Police said one victim was taken to a hospital for examination. Nearly all other drivers and passengers sustained minor injuries and were referred to their general practitioners for follow-up care.
Emergency services responded in force. Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the scene, along with numerous vehicles from Rijkswaterstaat.
Police confirmed that children were traveling in some of the cars. In at least one vehicle, a baby was present and appeared unharmed. Photographs from the scene show the presumed parents standing near the guardrail in the central median beside a Maxi-Cosi infant seat, Omroep Brabant reports.
Authorities temporarily closed the road, fully shutting down traffic in the direction of the A59. Five tow trucks were used to remove all six damaged vehicles.
The roadway also required cleaning before traffic could resume. two lanes remained closed for a period of time during the cleanup and towing process.
