Crash between two trucks shuts down A73 in Limburg, two drivers injured
The A73 highway in Limburg was closed Friday afternoon in the direction of Nijmegen after a serious collision between two trucks, according to Rijkswaterstaat. Traffic heading north toward Venlo and Nijmegen was diverted, and authorities said that side of the road would remain closed until at least 8 p.m.
The accident happened between Belfeld and the Tiglia interchange, De Telegraaf reported. Southbound traffic toward Maasbracht was gradually reopened, with vehicles allowed to pass via the emergency lane. Drivers in the area were warned to expect delays of 30 minutes or more.
Police said both truck drivers were injured and taken to a hospital, but the severity of their injuries was not immediately known. According to the police, one of the trucks suffered a tire blowout, and the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking the other truck.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and will need to be recovered, authorities said. A streetlight also fell onto the road as a result of the crash.
