Severe crash closes A12 near Bunnik for hours overnight

A serious accident on the A12 highway near Bunnik closed the road in the direction of Utrecht for more than six hours overnight, NOS reported. The crash occurred between Bunnik and the Lunetten junction, prompting a major emergency response shortly after midnight.

A trauma helicopter was dispatched to the scene, along with other emergency services. Rijkswaterstaat confirmed that the A12 remained closed until 6:20 a.m. Friday, after which the road was reopened to traffic. Until then, drivers were rerouted through Barneveld and Amersfoort.

Authorities have not released any information about the cause of the crash or whether anyone was injured or killed. No further details were available from police or emergency services by Sunday morning.

Images from the scene show a small passenger vehicle with severe damage, positioned in the middle of the highway. The road surface was littered with broken glass and debris from the vehicle. The exact circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
