Six injured after Dutch coach with 23 senior passengers crashes in Germany

Six people were injured Friday evening when a Dutch coach carrying 23 senior passengers veered off the road between Rötgesbüttel and Meine in the German state of Lower Saxony. Two of the injured sustained serious wounds, NU.nl reports.

According to German emergency services, the coach driver likely lost control of the vehicle after becoming ill. The bus struck multiple trees before coming to a halt with heavy damage.

Two of the seriously injured passengers were airlifted by helicopter to a hospital, the local news outlet Norddeutscher Rundfunk reported. The driver is also among the injured. Initial reports mentioned 15 injured, but that number was later revised to six.

The group was traveling to a hotel in Braunschweig for an overnight stay. Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
