Video: Fate of Rotterdam’s Ferro Dome remains unclear after roof collapse
Authorities and experts are assessing the Ferro Dome, a former gas storage facility in Rotterdam, as its future remains uncertain after its roof collapsed on Thursday. The building has been evacuated, and the surrounding area has been cordoned off. Officials say the situation is currently stable, but the exact condition of the structure remains unclear.
“This is one of the many uncertainties,” a spokesperson for the Port of Rotterdam Authority told AD. The authority, which manages the city’s port area and related facilities, oversees the Ferro Dome site. The spokesperson noted that evaluating the building is difficult due to ongoing weather conditions.
In the coming days, experts from the Port of Rotterdam Authority will determine what measures can be taken to ensure the structure poses no risk to the surrounding area. It is not yet known whether the building will need to be demolished.
The Ferro Dome is located on the M4H site, which Rotterdam plans to develop into a “tough and sustainable residential neighborhood” with public facilities and businesses.
