Video: Fire breaks out at nightclub Bruins in Saasveld where thousands were gathered
Several thousand people were in attendance at a nightclub in Saasveld when a fire broke out early Monday morning. Despite the heavy crowds, there were no injuries reported at Dancing Bruins, a club located a short drive away from the Dutch cities of Enschede, Hengelo, and Almelo, which is also close to the German border.
The venue promoted a sold out show on Sunday night called Bring the Noise, with popular hardcore DJ headliner Spitnoise on their main stage. Records show the first call to firefighters took place at about 12:49 a.m., and the alarm was elevated to a mid-level fire 15 minutes later.
"Approximately 3,000 people were present at the time," according to regional emergency services office Twente Veilig. "The venue manager, in collaboration with emergency services, evacuated the location. There were no casualties," the office stated.
"The incident was upgraded to a medium fire to ensure sufficient equipment was available," according to the official report. At least one ambulance responded to the scene, along with a large number of police officers, according to regional media reports.
The fire was struck out by 1:20 a.m. "The discotheque never reopened, and patrons returned home," the emergency services office stated.
The village of Saasveld is part of the municipality of Dinkelland in Overijssel.
