Two men killed in separate Christmas Eve crashes in Zwartsluis and Maasdijk
Two men were killed in separate traffic accidents in the Netherlands on Christmas Eve, authorities reported.
In Zwartsluis, a 40-year-old man without a fixed residence died in a collision on the N331 around 11:30 p.m., the police said on X. The crash occurred on the dike between Hasselt and Zwartsluis, just before the roundabout at Kranerweerd, when two cars collided.
“The driver of one car sustained only minor injuries. The other driver, a 40-year-old man, died as a result of the accident,” the police said.
Multiple emergency services responded to the scene. Both vehicles were later recovered, and the road was cleared of debris. The N331 reopened around 4 a.m., police said. Investigators are still determining the exact cause of the crash.
Around 4:30 a.m., a separate fatal accident occurred in Maasdijk, Zuid-Holland, when a car caught fire after colliding with a bridge on the Coldenhovelaan in the direction of Maassluis. Police confirmed the driver died at the scene.
