Suspect held for manslaughter in death of singer S10's twin brother says he's innocent
One of several suspects accused in the death of singer S10's twin brother professed his innocence during a Monday court hearing into the status of his criminal case. Richie F., 30, from Hoorn, denied any involvement in the incident. The victim, Emiel den Hollander, was held captive in a high-rise apartment in Amsterdam, leading to the ill-fated escape attempt where the 24-year-old fell to his death.
"I had nothing to do with the hostage situation and nothing to do with his death. I am innocent," F. told judges in Haarlem at the District Court of Noord-Holland. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects F. of holding Den Hollander against his will, and of manslaughter.
Prosecutors alleged the victim was being held captive in an apartment building and saw no other way out than to jump from the balcony earlier this year on April 16. He was found seriously injured on the roof of a garage at the foot of the residential complex on Osdorper Ban in Amsterdam. He died from his injuries on June 19.
F.'s attorney asked the court to lift his pretrial detention, as security camera footage showed he was not in the home at the time of the fall at 7:02 p.m. "He knows absolutely nothing about any hostage situation. He was not involved in the fall, nor in his death," the lawyer argued.
The Public Prosecution Service wants F. to remain in custody, as he was in the home that afternoon. F. was involved in the plan to deprive the victim of liberty the day before the fatal fall, the OM stated. "He knew exactly what was going on."
The prosecutor confirmed that F. left just before the fatal fall, allegedly to move the victim's car. The OM claims he also attended the "after-party" with two co-defendants.
"There was clearly an argument that afternoon," the prosecutor said in court. Security camera footage shows the victim entering the apartment at 1:41 p.m. He reportedly had collected a sum of money from Monnickendam. It was a friend who called the police later that day to say they were concerned about a kidnapping.
Police were unable to find personal belongings when the seriously injured victim was found on the roof, making the escape scenario more plausible. The victim was only able to be identified using fingerprints.
His twin sister, Stien den Hollander, better known by stage name S10, did not attend the hearing. Their mother was in attendance, sitting in the public gallery.
A total of five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, three of whom remain in custody. A minor was also conditionally released. The Public Prosecution Service's investigation will not be completed until next year.
"We want to get to the bottom of everything," said the prosecutor. She did not rule out the possibility of further arrests. The court will announce on Tuesday whether F. will remain in custody.
