Video: 4 trucks crash on A73 highway; One killed, one rushed to hospital by helicopter
Four trucks collided on the A73 highway from Roermond to Venlo on Tuesday morning. One person was killed in the accident, another was badly hurt and rushed to a hospital by trauma helicopter, a police spokesperson told L1 Nieuws.
The accident happened at around 9:35 a.m. near the village of Belfeld. The emergency services responded in large numbers, including a trauma helicopter from Germany. “The police alone are present with 15 vehicles, and that’s not including the fire department and ambulance,” the police spokesperson said.
A reporter at the scene said that several people were trapped in their vehicles. The police spokesperson could not confirm this.
The cause of the accident is unclear. The police have also not released any information about the identities of the deceased and injured persons.
The A73 is closed completely in the northbound direction. Rijkswaterstaat hopes to open the highway by 5:00 p.m. Traffic is being diverted via the A2 and A67.
