Woman dies after being hit while crossing A59 near Waalwijk

Updated at 10:00 to include new information on the woman's identity

A woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing the A59 highway near Waalwijk on Saturday night, police said. She was a 29-year-old migrant worker and was studying in Waalwijk.

The collision occurred around 9 p.m. on the stretch of highway between Waalwijk and Den Bosch. The victim died at the scene from her injuries. Authorities have not released her identity.

It is unclear why she was crossing the highway. The car that hit her came to a stop several hundred meters away with heavy damage.

Police closed the A59 for investigation following the crash. The driver's condition has not been disclosed.
