Man arrested for alleged sexual abuse at care facility in Voorne aan Zee
A 68-year-old man from Brielle has been arrested on suspicion of sexual misconduct involving a resident of a care facility for people with intellectual disabilities. The facility is located in the municipality of Voorne aan Zee, South Holland.
Police said the victim is an adult resident, but no further details about their identity have been disclosed. The suspect was taken into custody this week in Ede, Gelderland. Authorities have not released information about the man’s relationship to the victim.
The suspect was brought before the examining magistrate on Friday, and his pretrial detention has been extended by 14 days.
Residents of the care facility and their families have been informed. Victim support services have also been activated. The case is under investigation by the vice squad of the Rotterdam police.
Voorne aan Zee Mayor Arno Scheepers expressed his deep concern. “A situation like this leaves profound scars. First and foremost for the victim and their parents, but also for fellow residents and staff at the care facility. Everything is being done to provide them with the support and assistance they need. Our thoughts are with them.”
Due to privacy concerns and the vulnerability of the residents, authorities have not disclosed the name or location of the care facility, Scheepers said.
