Dutch police officer and organist fired over alleged sexual abuse of minors
André N., a well-known organist and police officer from Werkendam who served with the Rotterdam police, has been dismissed following allegations of sexual abuse involving minors, Omroep Brabant reported.
The 34-year-old officer faces accusations of performing sexual acts on a 15-year-old boy and raping three boys aged 16 to 18 in locations including Werkendam, Zeeland, and the Veluwe.
Police confirmed to Omroep Brabant that N. was terminated for “serious dereliction of duty.” Authorities are also investigating claims that he accessed police systems unlawfully and his involvement in an incident in which a detainee was injured.
N., who also occasionally played the organ in his police uniform, was suspended from duty in August of last year after a sexual offense complaint was filed against him. At the time, police described the allegations as a “potential criminal act during private time.”
The criminal investigation into the sexual offenses has progressed to formal prosecution, and the case is scheduled to be heard in court.
On April 14, N. was arrested in Altena on suspicion of sexual offenses and violation of his official duties, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). Authorities confirmed that a total of four complaints have been filed against him.
