Police shoot man suspected of breaking into cars in Noord-Brabant

Police shot a suspect in the leg early Wednesday morning in Uden, Noord-Brabant. The man was accused of breaking into "company vehicles" in Uden. An officer first released a police dog and then shot at the suspect.

The suspect was treated at an area hospital following the incident, which took place at about 4 a.m. on Oranjestraat. The suspect was identified as a 31-year-old from Zeeland.

There were no other injuries. Police are further investigating several damaged vehicles that were broken into during property crimes.

The Rijksrecherche will investigate whether the police acted correctly by using force. The independent service investigates all use of police force in the Netherlands. The Public Prosecution Service will then determine whether the violence used by the officer was legal.

"Whether the officer acted within the rules in this situation must be carefully and independently investigated." A spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service said that an investigation like this usually takes months rather than weeks.
