Gunshot wound leaves man dead in Duivendrecht
One person died in a shooting in Duivendrecht on Tuesday evening, and hours after the victim was found police had still not revealed if the man was killed as part of a crime.
Authorities first received a call about the victim just before 5:25 p.m. from the Buitensingel, an area bordered on the west by the A2, and to the east by the train tracks leading to the Duivendrecht train station.
“Unfortunately, despite attempts to revive [the man] he died from his gunshot wound,” police said in a statement. Authorities asked for witnesses to come forward if they saw anything strange in the area between 5:10 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Police told newspaper AD that the investigation was ongoing, and that all possibilities were still open, including a potential crime but also a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Duivendrecht is part of the municipality of Ouder-Amstel, Noord-Holland. It is wedged between Amsterdam Oost, Diemen, and Amsterdam Zuidoost.
