Yet another explosive found at an Amsterdam coffeeshop

The police found a hand grenade at a coffeeshop on Brouwersgracht in Amsterdam on Sunday morning. The Ministry of Defense's explosive clearance department disarmed the explosive at the scene and removed it.

The explosive was left at coffeeshop Siberia, according to Het Parool. A police spokesperson would not make any statements to the newspaper about why the grenade was left there.

The Defense team disarmed and removed the explosive by 1:30 p.m., the spokesperson said. The investigation was delayed for a while as the team first had to deal with an ATM bombing on Delfhandplein.

Hand grenades and other explosives found at Amsterdam businesses is not a rare occurrence. Last weekend two hand grenades were left at coffeeshop New Times in Amsterdam Spuistraat. The week before a hand grenade was found on Eerste Coehoornstraat in the center of Amsterdam. And on April 5th, a grenade exploded in front of the entrance to club Mad Fox, located under Hotel W Amsterdam.

According to Het Parool, the man who owns the building in which New Times is located also owns the building that housed coffeeshop Los Angeles on Derde Oosterparkstraat. Los Angeles closed its doors in September after a large explosion. It is not yet clear whether the building owner is the target of these attacks, or whether him owning two targeted buildings is just a coincidence.
