Ex-boyfriend arrested for involvement in Rotterdam woman's death

A 29-year-old man from Barendrecht was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the death of 29-year-old Bianca van Es from Rotterdam. Stephan K. was Bianca's ex boyfriend. She ended their relationship a few days before her death, several sources told newspaper AD.

Bianca was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her apartment on Luntershoek in Rotterdam on Friday, November 30th. The fire brigade responded to the apartment building at around 8:00 a.m. after neighbors reported smelling gas coming from the apartment. Firefighters found Bianca's body. Her toddler daughter was also in the apartment. The child was in good health, according to the newspaper.

The gas was turned on in the apartment. Emergency services initially thought that the woman had committed suicide, but this turned out not to be the case. An autopsy revealed traces of violence on Bianca's body, but could not determine the cause of her death. The Netherlands Forensic Institute is currently investigating.

According to AD, one of the scenarios the police are investigating is that Stephan K. tried to make Bianca's death look like a suicide.
