High usage could cause low water pressure in three Dutch provinces

Households in parts of Friesland, Overijssel and Flevoland may experience low water pressure in the coming days. Water consumption in these areas is currently much higher than normal due to the persistent heat, water company Vitens announced on Tuesday, NU.nl reports.

According to the water company, about 45 percent more water is currently being consumed in Friesland and Overissel than normal.

In Friesland households around Lemmer, Sneek, Oosterwolde, Appelscha, Bakkeveen, Ureterp and Dokkum may notice water pressure decreasing over the coming days. In Overijssel this is the case along the Overijsselse Vecht and around Enschede, and in Flevoland around the Noordoostpolder.

Vitens calls on people to use water as sparingly as possible, for example by not washing their cars, taking shorter showers and not watering their gardens.

The hot, dry weather is expected to continue in the Netherlands for at least the coming two weeks.
