Arrest made in Pinkpop fatal crash

Police arrested the suspected driver in a fatal crash that left one person dead and three others in critical condition early Monday morning. The arrest was announced at about 11:15 a.m., a little over seven hours after the hit-and-run incident.

Authorities did not reveal whether or not it was an accident.

A press conference was scheduled for noon at the Landgraaf city hall. The crash happened on Mensheggerweg in the Limburg town, close to the Pinkpop music festival’s Campground B.

Authorities said they found the white multi-person vehicle used in the crash. Witnesses near the incident said it was a white Fiat Doblo.

The news conference will include representatives from the police, the public prosecutor, Pinkpop, as well as Landgraaf mayor Raymond Vlecken.

The annual Pinkpop Festival kicked off on June 15, and closed with a performance by Bruno Mars hours before the crash took place. Pinkpop is held in Landgraaf, just five kilometers from the German border, and 20 kilometers from the Belgian border.

The incident happened around 4:00 a.m. The police did not reveal any details about the victims' identity, but did say that they attended the festival over the weekend, NU.nl reports. Many people witnessed the incident and Victim Aid was called in to assist them. The municipality of Landgraaf also opened a hotline, where people can get more information about the situation.

The authorities closed down the road for investigation. On Monday morning the Pinkpop organizers helped festival visitors that stayed on Campground B leave the terrain through another exit. Pinkpop released a statement saying that they are deeply shocked by what happened and sympathize with the victims and their family.
