Video: Motorist, 54, dies after crashing into Heerlen hospital

A 54-year-old man from Kerkrade died after he crashed his car into a building of the Zuyderland hospital in Heerlen on Thursday evening. It was a fatal accident, the police concluded after investigation.

The accident occured aroun 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. The man first reversed into the glass facade of the hospital on Henri Dunanstraat, and then drove head-on into another part of the building, the police said.

The driver was seriously injured and was immediately taken to the emergency room. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The hospital’s emergency room was closed for a short time due to the collision. No one else was injured, but the building sustained some damage.
