Amsterdam, Arnhem hit in scattered power outages

Power outages in Amsterdam and Arnhem left thousands of people in the dark on Monday. Power is already restored to Amsterdam, and Arnhem residents should have electricity again by 1:30 p.m., grid manager Liander said on Twitter.

The Amsterdam outage affected some 26,700 residents of West and Nieuw-West, according to Het Parool. The Slotervaart hospital had to switch to backup power, but the OLVG hospital and Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital were unaffected. The outage also caused some disruptions to tram lines 1, 2 and 17.

In Arnhem 39 thousand homes are without power, according to De Gelderlander. The outage started around 11:25 a.m. Surrounding towns like Oosterbeek, Velp, and Rheden are also affected. Liander expects to have this problem resolved by 1:30 p.m.

NS reports that no train traffic is currently possible between Arnhem Centraal and Dieren, and between Arnhem Centraal and Zevenaar due to the outage.
