Members of Schaijk football club found in child porn images

Child pornography found on a 21-year-old man from Schaijk, contained young members of local football club DAW Schaijk, according to Omroep Brabant. The man, arrested on Tuesday, used to be a youth leader at the football club. He worked with boys between the ages of 12 and 14.

The suspect had "unobtrusive behavior and was very beloved in the club", DAW president Henrie Lamers said to Omroep Brabant on Friday morning. "It is unimaginable. The news hit like a bomb. That applies to the whole community in Schaijk and we are a good reflection of that as club."

The 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday. He will be arraigned later today. He is suspected of possession of child pornography, and making pornographic images of underage teens.

According to Lamers, the club suspended the man in August based on "urgent advice" from the police and municipality. An investigation was ongoing against him. "Because the investigation was still at an early stage, we kept it internal. After the arrest on Tuesday, everything became public."

The football club was informed that some of its members are in the pornographic material found on the suspect by letter. The letter also stated that "there is no evidence that there was any (criminal) physical contact between the suspect and minors", according to the broadcaster.

An information evening will soon be held.
