One killed in early morning police shooting in Purmerend

An as yet unidentified person was shot and killed by a police officer in Purmerend on Friday morning. The police confirmed the shooting, but would say nothing further about the circumstances surrounding it, the Telegraaf reports.

Very little information is available about what happened and the identity of the victim. The shooting happened around 5:00 a.m. on Burgemeester D. Kooimanweg in Purmerend. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail.

The street was closed for investigation. The investigation and further announcements are in the hands of the Rijksrecherche - the department that handles internal investigations at the police and other public services.
