Police in Capelle aan den IJssel shoot person seen with car involved in a robbery

The police shot a person in Capelle aan den IJssel on Thursday evening, the Rotterdam police reported on X. The person was rushed to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

The shooting happened on Reviusrondeel at around 10:25 p.m. According to the police, the person was seen with a car that may have been used in a robbery earlier in the day.

The robbery happened on Borndiep in the Zuid-Holland town. A firearm may have been involved, the police said.

The police have not said anything about the person's condition or why the officers felt compelled to shoot. Rijnmond reported that a Gucci bag with a firearm inside was left behind on the street after the shooting.

The car involved drove away after the shooting, possibly with multiple people inside. The police are looking for them.

The Rijksrecherche, the department that handles internal investigations at the police and other government services, will investigate the shooting. This is standard practice every time a police officer discharges their service weapon.
