The man police shot Friday night in Rozenburg is a 30-year-old building resident
The man shot and killed by police Friday evening in Rozenburg has been identified as 30-year-old resident of the apartment, authorities confirmed Saturday.
The victim, whose name has not been released, allegedly threatened officers with a knife when they entered his flat on Ruygeplaat around 6:00 p.m.
Emergency services, including an ambulance and a trauma helicopter, responded, but the man could not be saved. The incident occurred on the fourth floor of the building, according to regional broadcaster Rijnmond.
The Rijksrecherche, the national police oversight body, is investigating, as is standard for all fatal police-involved incidents. Once the inquiry is complete, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) will determine whether the officers acted lawfully.
The OM and police said: “We understand that this incident raises many questions about exactly what happened. Careful investigation is required to provide answers. As soon as information can be shared, the OM will do so.”
