Death threat against Woerden mayor painted on road

A death threat directed at Woerden mayor Victor Molkenboer was spray-painted on the Hollandbaan in Woerden. The text, which also declares war on the police and mayor, was signed "regards drug dealers", according to RTV Utrecht.

"Molkenboer retirement or death", the text read. And: "You will burn."

In a written response to RTV Utrecht, the Woerden municipality wrote that the message and vandalism are unacceptable. The text was removed from the road and the municipality filed charges with the police. Mayor Molkenboer is currently on holiday, but plans to file a threat report when he returns.

The identity of the message writer is unclear. According to the broadcaster, the Woerden police and mayor stepped up their fight against drug dealers over the past months.
