Two young girls chased by cars near murder scene
Two young girls in Bunschoten and Soest reported being chased by cars over the past days in the area where two 14-year-old girls were found dead in Bunschoten and Achterveld over the weekend. In both cases it happened while the girls were cycling in their home towns. The police are calling on local residents to keep an eye out for a black car in the area of Spakenburg and Soest, AD reports.Bunschoten, Soest, Spakenburg and Achterveld are all located no more than 20 kilometers from each other.
A 17-year-old girl was cycling in the Bunschoten neighborhood of Koenraadswetering on Wednesday afternoon when a car started following her. According to the police, the girl managed to get away, but is terribly upset. The girl reported the event to the police, who responded to the scene immediately, but did not find anyone. "We don't have badge or license plate number of the car and the description is basic. So we can not investigate. But we are aware of it. We take the report very seriously", a police spokesperson said to AD.
On Saturday a 12-year-old girl cycled up to a group of football players in a panic at event terrain De Eng in Soest. She told them that a black car with two men is following her. "She asked if she could stand with us because she was afraid", one footballer, who asked to stay anonymous, said to AD. "We asked what was going on and then she said that the two men in the small black Volkswagen Polo were following her. She turned around to cycle away and then the car turned around too and followed her into a dead end street."
The girl called her father and he came to pick her up minutes later. The footballer could not see the driver well, but did get a good look at the passenger. "A tanned boy with curls. He was also wearing a hair band. They were two young men." he said to the newspaper.
Reports are circulating on social media about men in a black car harassing girls near Spakenburg and Soest. The police are calling on local residents to keep an eye out for the car, and to call them with tips. "We take these reports very seriously and urgently ask people to call the police", a spokesperson said to the newspaper.
The region around Bunschoten has been on high alert since 14-year-old Savannah Dekker disappeared on Thursday. She was found dead in the water of a ditch on industrial terrain De Kronkels on Sunday. On Friday 14-year-old Romy Nieuwburg, was found killed in a watery ditch in Achterveld, Utrecht - about 15 kilometers away from where Savannah was found. So far the police would not say how Savannah died. Investigators did say that Romy was killed in a crime.
