Police arrested a 31-year-old Rotterdam man who they suspect of co-perpetrating the assassination of criminal defense attorney Derk Wiersum last September. The man was arrested in Amsterdam on Monday, and remanded into custody by a magistrate on Thursday, police said.
Three men and a woman from the province of Utrecht were convicted for organizing dog fights, animal abuse, and breeding fighting dogs. One was given a prison sentence, the rest various lengths of community service. They are also banned from owning dogs for three years, NOS reports.
The court considered it proven that the four organized and filmed at least four dog fights in Amersfoort, Zeist and Soest.
Bart B., a 56-year-old man suspected of the murder of his partner Miranda Zitman, claims that the woman's death was an accident. In a proforma hearing on Monday, he told the court that he found her dead at the bottom of the stairs in their home and then cut her body into pieces and hid the body parts, NU.nl reports.
The police found human remains during a search in Soest on Tuesday in the investigation into the disappearance of 52-year-old Miranda Zitman. Whether the body is that of the missing woman, is not yet known, NU.nl reports.
A 56-year-old man was arrested in Soest on Tuesday in connection with a missing person case. The police are performing investigations in a home in the city, RTL Nieuws reports.
Thus far the police refused to say what missing person case the man was arrested for, or what his suspected involvement is.
A forensic team was seen entering the home and a forensic investigation container was placed in the street, according to the broadcaster.
One person was killed in a fire at the Oranjepark apartment building in Soest on Thursday morning. The fire broke out at around 4:00 a.m. on the second floor of the building on Vredehofstraat, which consists of service homes for the elderly, RTV Utrecht reports.
Firefighters had the fire under control at around 6:00 a.m. The victim's body was found in the completely burnt-out home.
The upper floors of the building were evacuated due to smoke. The residents were offered shelter at a nearby restaurant.
The body of Marloes Idzerda was found in a wooded area in Soest on Wednesday after two days of searching. The 44-year-old woman from Amersfoort disappeared on Sunday.
Idzerda was last seen on Sunday. She was reported missing during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Her car was found on Oude Leusderweg in Soest on Sunday.
A body was found during the search for 17-year-old Koen van Keulen in Italy. It is not yet known if it is the missing teenager from Soest, RTV Utrecht reports.
The body was found in a ditch along a main road on Monday morning, according to the broadcaster.
Koen went missing during the early hours of Friday morning, after a night out with friends at Lake Garda in Italy. He reportedly did not get out off the bus at the campground where he was staying with friends and family.
A 17-year-old boy from Soest disappeared in Italy during the early hours of Friday morning. The local authorities and some 200 volunteers searched for Koen van Keulen the whole weekend, but so far to no avail. On Sunday evening search dogs from the Netherlands joined the search, NOS reports.
The police are looking for 17-year-old Sabrina Kovac from Soest. The teenager left her home on Tuesday and hasn't been seen or heard from since.
A photo of Sabrina is being spread around. The police call on people in Gelderland and Limburg in particular to keep an eye out for Sabrina, because she has friends in those provinces, according to RTV Utrecht.
"We do not immediately assume a crime, but we are worried. A girl of that age should sleep at home in the night, or at least sleep where she belongs", police spokesperson Bernhard Jens said to the broadcaster.
The police are searching the wooded area around Soestdijk Palace for missing 50-year-old Edwin Takens from Soest. Takens left his home on Tuesday to go to work, and never returned. His car was found near the Paardenbos on Wednesday night, RTV Utrecht reports.
Around 50 police officers are combing the wooded area on Friday, police spokesperson Shirley Boonen said to newspaper AD. A police helicopter is also helping in the search. The police and soldiers also searched the wooded area on Thursday.
In addition to a jacket, more clothes were found that "almost certainly" belong to missing 25-year-old Anne Faber next to Amerfoortseweg in Huis ter Heide on Tuesday, police spokesperson Bernhard Jens confirmed. The police hope that they will be able to conclusively determine whether the clothes belong to the missing Utrecht woman today. Sniffer dogs are currently searching for other traces of the missing woman in the area where the clothing was found, AD reports.
On Tuesday night television program Opsporing Verzocht paid attention to the disappearance of 25-year-old Anne Faber from Utrecht. She went missing while cycling on Friday. During and after the broadcast, the police received dozens of tips about the young woman. All tips will be investigated, RTL Nieuws reports.

A 57-year-old man was found dead in a home in Soest on Saturday afternoon. According to the police, the man was killed in a crime.
Around 2:10 p.m. the police received a report of a wounded man in a home on Weegbreestraat. When officers arrived at the scene, the man was already dead.
The police closed down the property and gallery for a trace evidence investigation. A neighborhood investigation was done on Sunday afternoon.

Fourteen year old Romy Nieuwburg from Hoevelaken, who was found dead in a watery ditch in Achterveld, Utrecht on Friday, was a lovely girl, according to friends. They describe her as "the perfect daughter and friend". Her school, J.H. Donner school in nearby De Glind, is also "devastated" by her loss, according to director Jan Hofman.
Two young girls in Bunschoten and Soest reported being chased by cars over the past days in the area where two 14-year-old girls were found dead in Bunschoten and Achterveld over the weekend. In both cases it happened while the girls were cycling in their home towns. The police are calling on local residents to keep an eye out for a black car in the area of Spakenburg and Soest, AD reports.Bunschoten, Soest, Spakenburg and Achterveld are all located no more than 20 kilometers from each other.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of 7 million euros worth of Apple products from an industrial terrain on Schiphol airport in December, the Koninklijke Marechaussee announced on Tuesday.
In December the suspects drove onto a Schiphol business area with a truck. They loaded the truck with 46 pallets of Apple phones and tablets before taking off. The stolen products were worth about 7 million euros.
Shortly after the theft, some of the stolen goods were listed for sale on line. Some were also found in a warehouse in Delft.
Dismay reigns at the Rabobank headquarters on Croeselaan in Utrecht after one of its employees, 41-year-old Corrie, was stabbed to death in front of the bank on Tuesday.
