Limburg men arrested on terrorism threats
The two men who were arrested in Susteren on Monday, were arrested on suspicion of threatening to commit a terrorist offense, according to the Public Prosecutor. The magistrate extended their custody by 14 days, RTL Nieuws reports.
The suspects, a 36-year-old from Heerlen and a 31-year-old from Brunssum, were arrested after one of them called the police and threatened an explosion. They were arrested in a barn along the A2.
Due to the threat of an explosion, the police closed the A2 near Susteren in both directions and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called in. No explosives were found.
In the interest of the investigation, the Public Prosecutor would make no further comment on the case.
