Body found of man missing since traffic accident in mid-October

The police found the body of a 36-year-old man from Posterholt in Stevensweert aan de Maas on Wednesday afternoon. The man has been missing since mid-October. He disappeared after being involved in a car accident on the A2.

The accident happened during the early hours of Sunday, October 20. A car and a truck collided on the A2 near Roosteren. When the police arrived at the scene, the driver of the car was nowhere to be found.

Witnesses reported that the man was injured and the police immediately combed the area, but to no avail. The next day, the police launched a major search along the A2 near Roosteren, with dozens of cops, firefighters, and volunteers searching for the man, L1 Nieuws reported. That, too, yielded nothing.

On Wednesday, the police found a body on the Verlengde Oude Maasweg near Stevensweert. An investigation identified the victim as the 36-year-old man from Posterholt.

Exactly what happened between October 20 and December 4 is unclear. “The victim may have ended up in the water after the accident and was later found in Stevensweert,” the police said.
