Police track licence plates in Hoofddorp crime fighting strategy

A test run with the Automatic Number Plate Recognition, known by acronym ANPR, has been launched in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, the police announced on Wednesday. This was done to help fight crime during the oncoming longer nights and shorter days of winter. Badge scanners have been placed at a number of places spread throughout the municipality to assist police with performing targeted checks. The aim of this test run is to use the system to aid in prevention and combating of robberies, home burglaries and street robberies. The location of the scanners have not been disclosed to keep the likelihood of success as high as possible. The police also called on residents to help with this initiative. If you notice a suspicious situation, take note and give licence plate numbers, descriptions and flight routes through to the police.
