Alcohol part of deadly speedboat crash

A spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Authority (OM), says that the driver of the speedboat that crashed into a sloop on the Vinkeveense Plassen earlier this month was three times over the alcohol limit. The court published pieces of the report from the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) on Friday, after ordering that the man would remain in his cell for the next two weeks. In The Netherlands, drivers are allowed 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per liter of blood. According to the NFI documents, the man had between 1.4 and 2.6 milligrams of alcohol in his system. The 49-year-old man from Oosterbeek is being held on suspicion of manslaughter. The two other people who were arrested in this case, from Amstelveen, have since been released but remain suspects. In the crash, which happened on the 2nd of August, two men from Leusden were killed.
