Eight stranded on sandbank, saved

Eight people became stranded on a sandbank on Sunday. They were saved when the Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM) came into action. The people belonged to a group of 20 who came to the beach at Renesse in Zeeland. They were surprised by the incoming tide and became stuck on the sandbank, the KNRM reports. The group could no longer get to the beach because of the rising sea water. Rescue boat Baron van Lynden was called to action and saved the group from the sandbank.

It seems that 12 people took it upon themselves to wade or swim back to shore. According to the KNRM, the pleasant weather meant that it was very busy on the beach Sunday afternoon, and people came out to take a walk. The group ended up stranded because they did not think about the incoming tide.
