Netherlands wakes up to a break in the heat, with temps to hold around 25°C this week
The Netherlands is waking up Monday morning to a clear break in the recent heat, Weeronline reports. Temperatures are set to hold around 25 degrees this week, as cooler and more comfortable summer conditions take hold across the country.
In the meantime, meteorologists are monitoring warmer air building over southwestern Europe. This air mass may move north toward the Netherlands during the weekend, raising the chance of hotter weather returning. Early next week, widespread tropical temperatures may again become possible.
Monday morning begun with a split weather pattern. Central and eastern regions are under cloud cover at daybreak, and Limburg sees a chance of isolated showers. Coastal areas are bright and sunny. Through the morning, cloud cover in the east will clear, and sunshine will spread nationwide.
This afternoon will reportedly be widely sunny and dry. Temperatures will reach about 22 degrees along the coast, rise to around 25 degrees across much of the central Netherlands, and peak locally at 28 degrees in parts of the southeast. Although still warm for late June, this marks a clear drop from the earlier extreme heat. A mostly moderate northwesterly wind will keep humidity lower, making conditions feel more comfortable.
This evening will remain mild and pleasant. Sunshine will continue well into the evening hours, with temperatures staying near or slightly above 20 degrees in many places.
Overnight, skies will remain mostly clear, allowing temperatures to fall to between 12 and 16 degrees. This will provide a cooler night and help clear heat from buildings. Toward the end of the night, cloud cover will increase from the west, although no rain is expected.
On Tuesday, the day will start dry and sunny. Cloud fields will gradually move in from the west during the day, reducing sunshine later on. Temperatures will ease slightly, ranging from about 20 degrees at the coast to up to 27 degrees near the eastern border. Meteorologists expect Tuesday to mark the likely end of the official heat wave, although a regional heat wave in the southeast is expected to continue for a short time.
Wednesday will continue with mostly stable summer weather. Isolated showers will be possible, but most areas will stay dry. Sunshine will dominate for long periods, with a weak to moderate northwesterly wind. Temperatures are expected to range between 20 and 25 degrees, consistent with typical Dutch summer conditions.
Beyond midweek, the pattern will remain steady. A mix of sun and cloud will persist with little significant rainfall, and temperatures will hold between 20 and 25 degrees.
