Dutch insurers report steady flow of claims after lightning, hail damage

Dutch insurers Centraal Beheer and Interpolis say they are receiving a steady stream of claims following last night's thunderstorms. Reports focused mainly on fire damage caused by lightning strikes and hail damage to skylights and cars.

Centraal Beheer and Interpolis expect additional claims to arrive in the coming days as damage to homes and personal property becomes more visible over time.

According to the insurers, the number of claims has not yet shown a sharp increase because storm-related damage is often not discovered immediately. They said the current picture is broadly similar to last weekend’s storm period, although this round of severe weather featured more localized hail showers.

“We advise customers, therefore, to check their home and immediate surroundings carefully. For example, pay attention to shifted roof tiles and make sure the gutter is clear to prevent water damage during the next shower.”
